How HandNorth handles the information you give us. HandNorth is a matching platform: we connect a client with an independent contractor. We are not the person who does the work. We do not sell your information. We do not invent a street address or a DPO name.

HandNorth is an online marketplace that connects a client (a homeowner or property team) with an independent professional — the contractor on that job. Live booking is Greater Montreal first — Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, Brossard and Terrebonne. Write hello@handnorth.com. We will not invent a René-Lévesque office or a New York suite.
We only match and list. We give clients tools to find independent professionals, and we give those professionals tools to find work. We process personal information to run accounts, listings, quotes, messages, verification and support. We are not the contractor, not a subcontractor, not a general contractor, not the professional’s employer, and not an insurer, in any Canadian province or territory or any U.S. state. This policy describes how we handle information. It is not a warranty of work, not a promise about the visit, and it does not make HandNorth a party to the project.
What happens on the job or project is between the client and the professional you hired — not HandNorth. That includes quality, delay, no-show, incomplete or defective work, property damage, personal injury, death, stolen or misplaced goods, quotes, advice, materials, access to the property, and any dispute between those two parties. We do not perform the work, we do not send our own crews, and we do not supervise the visit. Messaging, a project file, a Verified badge, a licence on file, or — when Stripe is live — moving funds are platform tools. They do not make us the contractor or an insurer. To the maximum extent permitted by the law of the place where you use HandNorth, we are not responsible for those events. The Terms of use state the release and the liability cap. Rights a privacy or consumer statute does not let you waive still apply, including, in Quebec, our own intentional or gross fault in how we handle personal information.
Account details you type (name, email, password, phone). Hire projects, quotes, messages and hold status. Pro applications (trade, cities, RBQ, CNESST or WSIB, insurer, uploads). Support requests you send from Contact. A waitlist email if you ask for the app link. Your IP address, and a listed metro we guess from it or that you type. When card checkout ships, card numbers stay with Stripe — we do not store the full card.
We may automatically guess which listed metro you are in from your IP (a CDN city header when we have one, or an IP-to-city lookup your browser may call). That guess can be wrong. It is not GPS, not a street address we invent, and not a promise that a visit is live there. We store it in a cookie so the homepage can show that city’s copy and a suggested language. Title, meta and canonical on / stay the national homepage. We do not sell this. We do not use a guess to invent tax, a local price or a listing count we do not have.
To run your account, show the right jobs, hold a visit window by hand today, verify a Pro, answer hello@handnorth.com, and to guess a listed metro for homepage copy (Quebec metros prefer French unless you pick a language). Stripe escrow is on the way. We do not run a live-chat queue or a phone line today.
You, the other party on a job you opened (because the contract for the work is between you and that professional), and the HandNorth person who reviews verification, support or a Report a problem. Showing a message to the other party does not make us the contractor. An IP-to-city lookup may see your IP when we or your browser ask it to guess a city. When Stripe ships, payment processors will see what they need to move escrow. We do not sell lists to advertisers.
While the account is open and as long as a job, payout or dispute still needs a record. You can write hello@handnorth.com to close an account. Some records stay when the law requires it, and when escrow is live if a hold still needs a record.
You can edit profile fields in the cabinet. You can ask us to correct or delete what we can legally remove. Cookies keep you signed in, remember a search, and remember a guessed or chosen city. Canada & the U.S. on the homepage turns auto-detect off. You can type a city or postal code instead. We do not name a hidden ad tracker.
The brand is built for both. Booking and billing location decide tax. Quebec GST+QST on live jobs is 14.975%. A U.S. city’s sales tax applies only when that city is live.
HandNorth is for adults hiring or doing home work. We do not knowingly keep an account for anyone under 13.
